Why, you may ask?

Was it that every facet of the meeting ran smoothly? That the Table Topics participants, Speakers, and Evaluators were unusually good that night? Perhaps it was the “back to the future” theme of “Graduation” that caused this meeting to stand out.

While all of the above points are true — it was indeed an unusually good meeting — the May 26th meeting will go down in Postprandial history because we officially inducted five — count ‘em — FIVE new members into the club. Not one, not two, not three or four, but FIVE.

Wow.

To add the icing here, all five of our new members are already Toastmasters and have belonged or still belong to another club. In some cases, the new member chose Postprandial after a rigorous vetting process during which he or she attended meetings at several clubs in the area, only to land at Postprandial.

We are honored, and humbled.

So three cheers and hats off to Melissa LaMark, Jean Publow, Matt Buffan, Paul German, and Mick Schoenberger!!!

Welcome aboard! We’re thrilled to have you in the club and know that you will each make great contributions to Postprandial.

Here are the results of the evening’s contests:

Table Topics

Runner-Up: Matt McDermott

Winner: Melissa LaMark

Evaluator

Runner-Up: Fred Beer

Winner: Drew Martin

Speaker

Runner-Up: Dara Grieger

Winner: Kelly Roland

Fellow Toastmasters,

Each year our club recognizes and honors someone outside of the club who has distinguished himself/herself as a leading communicator or spokesperson. This is our Communication Achievement Award (CAA for short). The process is simple, and it depends 100% on your nominations!

Here’s the timeline:

April 28: All nominations completed and returned to the VP Public Relations (Mark Frisk)

May 26: The list of nominees will be handed out to the membership for review. The nominators will present their nominee to the club with a brief (two minute) presentation. This will be followed by a vote of all active club members present to determine the 2007 CAA recipient.

June 23: CAA presented at the annual recognition banquet.

Here is an MS Word document with further instructions and a nomination form. You must be a current Postprandial member to nominate someone for this reward. If you have any questions, please contact Mark Frisk.

A message from Dave Pope, Postprandial Toastmasters President, 2009-2010:

The District 65 Toastmaster of the Year is awarded to an extraordinary member whose enthusiasm is so contagious it rubs off on everyone in the district; the industrious volunteer who is eager to perform any and all meeting assignments; the exceptional individual making uncommon efforts to recognize, encourage and nurture fellow Toastmasters.

The recipient of this year’s Toastmaster of the Year award was announced at the just-concluded Toastmasters District 65 Fall Conference, and I am very happy and proud to say that it is our own Kate Olsen.

Kate has worked very hard to support not only our club but also helped start the Geneva club and is coaching a few others as well. She is always one of the first members to step up to help the district and its clubs. She demonstrates the meaning of Toastmasters leadership and speaking in everything she does.

Postprandial Toastmasters (and welcome guests), please help me congratulate this year’s District 65 Toastmaster of the Year: Kate Olsen.

Well done, Kate. You have worked very hard and you deserve this!
