Leaves are not the only things dropping in droves this Fall; new members have been dropping onto the Postprandial doorstep at a rate of four new members in three meetings. In addition to Tina Dozier, we have recently inducted Melinda Yoder, Fred Beer, and Michael Krause.
The season has also brought with it a passion to kick things up a notch at our meetings. Members, who are at different stages of the communicator and leadership ladders, have all set the bar high. Our two meetings in October saw one member beginning her journey, one finding his own style, one pushing for growth beyond her style, and another stepping up his energy.
Tina Dozier came right out of the gate with a superb icebreaker about statistics, or rather, three ways she avoided becoming a statistic. Her message was well-organized and the audience was hers from beginning to end.
Sudipta Das will easily come to mind when we look back on memorable presentations this year. He had a growth spurt right before our very eyes, giving his speech without notes, with humor, and with extreme clarity. The audience was wowed by Sudipta that night and continues to be as his growth shined again at the next meeting during Tabletopics.
And then there was “Death,” otherwise known as Kelly Roland. Kelly is a confident, refined speaker, but in her “Madame Death” costume for her storytelling speech for our Scary Stories theme, she took her speaking talent to new heights and brought the audience along with her.
Bill Self packed another punch with a powerful “call to action” about crafting an effective closing to a speech. His energy and enthusiasm brought him the audience’s attention from the beginning, and as beckoned, to the Close.
Can we keep this momentum going? I’m sure we can. After all, November marks the 42nd Anniversary of Postprandial greatness.
